For the second year, CKC Good Food sponsored the Grand Slam fundraiser, benefiting Women of Nations, a shelter for American Indian women facing domestic violence. CKC is privileged to provide meals to the women and children staying at the shelter.
The pro-wrestling showdown in May drew some big names, including Baron Von Raschke, Kenny Jay, The High Flyers, Jim Brunzell and Greg Gagne, Ken Anderson, Derrick Dukes, Pat Tanaka, The Beverly Brothers, Mike Enos and Wayne Bloom, Ron Simmons, and D'Lo Brown. In addition to the main attraction in the ring, the Minnesota Wrestling Hall of Fame hosted an induction ceremony at the event, welcoming Road Warrior Animal, Paul Ellering and Sheik Adnan Al-Kassey into the Hall. There were also performances by a native drum group and native dancers.
All told, more than $20,000 was raised through the event, which is more than triple the amount raised in the first year. The funds will help complete the purchase of playground equipment and fund the installation at the shelter.
